Old Beech-Nut Baby Commercials FOUND!

RESEARCH PROJECT COMPLETED!

I am very pleased with myself after I found these old Beech-Nut baby commercials.  One of the families in one of the 60s commercials had actually NEVER seen their commercial (crazy, huh?!)  But due to my diligent digging and searching, I found it for them!  They were thrilled.  To protect their privacy, I won't post the specific video but here's a clip of one similar:

If you are interested in finding any old commercials (not available on youtube) please let me know! :)

VINTAGE COCKTAILS & HOME BARS

I was inspired to create this post when I came across this lovely cocktail:

The French 75 cocktail was made popular in America at the famous Stork Club.    It is made with Gin, Champagne, lemon juice and sugar.

What do you need for YOUR home bar?  Lets follow the example of some classic films and TV shows.

First, you need a BAR, of course!

Next, you must stock your bar with booze fit for the classic cocktails you intend on preparing:

You will need:
  • gin
  • vodka
  • bourbon
  • whisky
  • tequila
  • rum

And the following mixers:
  • Club soda
  • Tonic water
  • Cola
  • Sprite or 7-up
  • Ginger ale
  • Orange juice
  • Cranberry juice
  • Tomato juice
  • Pineapple juice
  • Angostura bitters  (via)
GARNISHES!

  • Cocktail olives
  • Cocktail onions
  • Horseradish
  • Limes
  • Lemons
  • Tabasco sauce
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Sugar
  • Ice

Now, onto the proper glasses!
...which must include old fashioned tumblers, high balls, wine glasses, martini glasses, champagne flutes, champagne glasses and shot glasses.

Next, you need a cocktail shaker!
I'd advise for you to look for a set like this one:
Finally, the ICE BUCKET!

...so, what drinks should you make???  I can think of a few...

  • a.  gimlet
  • b.  sidecar
  • c.  vodka martini
  • d.  mai tai
  • e.  manhattan
  • f.  tom collins
  • g.  gin martini
  • h.  old fashioned

....and, of course there's always beer:

...and there ya go!

...a little practice and you'll be ready to throw an impromptu cocktail party on a train!
...or perhaps a party for one...

...whatever the occasion, have fun!  and please drink responsibly! ;)

What was Audrey Hepburn's drink of choice?  I have read that it was scotch !

Champagne cocktail anyone?  Yes please for Marylin Monroe, Marlene Dietrich and Bridget Bardot!

.........until next time!

The Twist And Peanuts Style Dancing!

It's time to do THE TWIST!!!

A few days ago, I caught this compilation tribute to The Twist- the 1960 song released by Chubby Checker.  The day after I saw this, I went to a wedding and guess what they played?? Yep!  I had so much fun twisting with my husband, although secretly wished I wore something a bit more "twist-able" like some of the outfits you'll see below:

Look! It's Audrey- doing what looks like- The Twist!!

Could Elizabeth Taylor be doing the twist as well?!?!  What do you think?

Good 'Ol Chubby & Friends

The Twist- As Seen On Mad Men!

*******************************************************

NEXT- Let's visit another interesting style of 1960s dancing.  It's called, The Walk around in circles or stand still while whaling your arms up and down.  If anyone out there knows if the dance below does, in fact have an actual name, I'd very much like to know!!

First- for your viewing pleasure: Del Shannon and his 1961 classic, Runaway.  Pay VERY close attention to the woman in the back at the beginning... haha - very Austin Powers, baby.

Finally- I couldn't help but see the similarities between the above dancing and the Charlie Brown Christmas dance, below:

Until next time....

Extremely Rare Clip - Vera-Ellen On Perry Como!

Hi All! I hadn't seen this until it was posted a short while ago. It really is a must-see as Vera-Ellen clips are VERY hard to come by anyway! I love how relaxed she is here and not the slightest bit out of breath when she finishes the exuberant dance! What a gal!
