Bright And Cheery Retro Fans!

The Superior Electric Company A.K.A "SuperElectric" unfortunately stopped production in the 1960s, but luckily they left behind some cool bright cheery merch! This desk fan was probably picked up at a Sears in the mid-60s. SuperElectric sold various appliances such as toasters, waffle irons, percolators and of course, FANS!

This fan was in dire need of a sprucing up...but now it looks almost new! The turquoise could brighten up anyone's day!

I will be on the lookout for photos of some old SuperElectric merch. If you're a lover of vintage fans, prepare to be delighted:

Shirley Temple And Other Classic Halloween Inspiration!

As a lifelong Shirley Temple fan, obviously I dressed up as her for Halloween one year. I think it's an excellent idea- so here is some inspiration and tips:

In order for people to REALLY know you're Shirley, you must first need to wear a replica of a dress similar to the one she wore in her film, Stand Up And Cheer.

I wasn't able to find a clear colorized photo, but the dots and ribbon are red. :) You will also need some white shoes.

Of course, any Shirley costume would not be complete without a head of curls! 56 pin curls to be exact! Don't forget Shirley's trademark curl on her forehead! *Shirley Temple Trivia* - This curl became a trademark by accident DUE to an accident- Shirley accidentally fell outside on a brick walkway and cut her forehead open just before an audition! Her mother covered up the cut up with a sweet curl! :)

No matter how old I get, no matter where life takes me, if I have little girls of my own or not, one thing will never change: I LOVE SHIRLEY TEMPLE BLACK! I love the films she made and her ability to turn a lot of people's attitudes around in time of despair. I admire her courage as a woman to step up and get into the political ball game and fight for what she believed in (and still does). Shirley's survival of breast cancer is also incredibly inspiring- as was her bravery to put it out there when it happened. Finally, I admire her diligence in everything she put her mind to. I will always look up to Shirley Temple Black. "Now And Forever."

Old Beech-Nut Baby Commercials FOUND!

I am very pleased with myself after I found these old Beech-Nut baby commercials. One of the families in one of the 60s commercials had actually NEVER seen their commercial (crazy, huh?!) But due to my diligent digging and searching, I found it for them! They were thrilled. To protect their privacy, I won't post the specific video but here's a clip of one similar:

I was inspired to create this post when I came across this lovely cocktail:

The French 75 cocktail was made popular in America at the famous Stork Club. It is made with Gin, Champagne, lemon juice and sugar.

What do you need for YOUR home bar? Lets follow the example of some classic films and TV shows.

First, you need a BAR, of course!

Next, you must stock your bar with booze fit for the classic cocktails you intend on preparing:

You will need:

gin
vodka
bourbon
whisky
tequila
rum

And the following mixers:

Club soda
Tonic water
Cola
Sprite or 7-up
Ginger ale
Orange juice
Cranberry juice
Tomato juice
Pineapple juice
Angostura bitters (via)

GARNISHES!

Cocktail olives
Cocktail onions
Horseradish
Limes
Lemons
Tabasco sauce
Salt
Pepper
Sugar
Ice

Now, onto the proper glasses!

...which must include old fashioned tumblers, high balls, wine glasses, martini glasses, champagne flutes, champagne glasses and shot glasses.

Next, you need a cocktail shaker!

It's time to do THE TWIST!!!

A few days ago, I caught this compilation tribute to The Twist- the 1960 song released by Chubby Checker. The day after I saw this, I went to a wedding and guess what they played?? Yep! I had so much fun twisting with my husband, although secretly wished I wore something a bit more "twist-able" like some of the outfits you'll see below:

Happy New Year Everyone!

This year I have several "resolutions." One of them is to live a minimalistic lifestyle. This applies to fashion, as well. As you'll see here, and here designers are taking note also which excites me very much. Cue 'Street Scene' - I'm headed to Manhattan!

I feel it would be utterly impossible to do this post without hearing a little Street Scene. If you remember, I posted about the old tune here after watching I Wake Up Screaming (GREAT MOVIE!).

Here's a glimpse:

Now onto one of my favorite New Yorky movies, Breakfast at Tiffany's. Audrey is not only amazing in this film, but I LOVE the feelings she conveys with her expression. Here are some of my favorite things from the film.

Paul: "No. Amusingly and superficially talented, yes. But deeply and importantly, no."

I'm beginning to think so! I also am really interested in this biography. Has anyone read it? Does anyone have any recommendations of a Liz bio? I haven't bought/read any yet; all of my research has been done online.

It's funny...this morning I was watching, The Last Time I Saw Paris which was actually pretty good, as opposed to all the awful reviews I had read about it, that could have soured the idea of me renting it. I love the line, "The eye without a smile is the most dangerous.." Liz had the gift of extraordinary eyes which could do all the speaking themselves. I. Love. Her.

Not too long ago I stumbled upon this GREAT video of Liz on the game show, "What's My Line?" in 1954 (I posted previously Sue lyon's guest appearance). I just LOVE her here...she's amazingly beautiful, elegant, sweet and cute at the same time! AND, I LOVE her hairdo here! If I hadn't already cut my hair that short and grew it out long all over again, I would cut it! It just grows too slow and I hated it in that in between stage!

Marie Wilson (19 August 1916 - 23 November 1972) Was an American radio, film, and television actress. Born Katherine Elisabeth Wilson in Anaheim, California, she began her show business career in New York City as a dancer on the Broadway stage.

In 1947 she gained national fame when she starred in the situation-comedy series, "My Friend Irma."

Marie also appeared in numerous comedies and performed in Ken Murray's famous Hollywood "Blackouts". During World War II.

"My Friend Irma" made it to the big screen in 1949 and it's sequel "My Friend Irma Goes West" in 1950. "My Friend Irma" also became a CBS televison program from 1952 to 1954.

THE STORK CLUB - NEW YORK CITY'S FALLEN HOTSPOT

I couldn't let too much time go by without including a piece on The Stork Club! I have been researching the Stork for several years now and found an old write-up I did back when I was living in New York City. I have collected several Stork Club memorabilia such as match book cover, swizzle sticks and such.

I am aware of the film, The Stork Club, which to me was a disappointment. I'm also aware of the TV show, which I am lucky enough to have seen while visiting the Museum of Television and Radio. Actually, a funny thing happened...Right after I visited East 53rd Street, I went to the Museum and who's photo did I see immediately when I walked through the door? None other than William S. Paley!

“We hate to hear a fairy-tale before we go to bed! -We’d rather have you telling us what Walter Winchell said! We know our table manners, when to use a knife and fork- and we know that the Stork is a nightclub in New York!” –Sung by Shirley Temple and a group of children in the 1940 film, Young People.

What exactly was, “The Stork Club” mentioned in the song written by Mack Gorden and Harry Warren?

What was known as New York’s most enchanting nightclub from the roaring twenties to the swingin’ sixties, is today the home of Paley Park, a memorial for CBS founder, William S. Paley’s father, Sammuel Paley.

Ralph Blumenthal, Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter, published the book, America’s Most Famous Nightspot and The Last of Café Society on May 2, 2000. Blumenthal tells the story of the rise of the club and its owner, Oklahoma native, Sherman Billingsley.

In 1929, Billingsley, an ex-bootlegger, rounded up three partners and founded The Stork Club. Starting out as a speakeasy during Prohibition, Billingsley quickly learned the tricks-of-the-trade as a nightclub owner. He became media savvy and managed to befriend people who would assist in his success.

One of the people responsible for The Stork Club’s rise to extreme popularity was Walter Winchell, a New York born newspaper and radio commentator. Billingsley and Winchell met through a mutual friend and before long; Winchell began promoting The Stork Club on his radio show, dubbing it, “New York’s Most New York-iest Spot.” From that moment on, the club became just that. The buzz surrounding the club added to the glitz associated with New York City during that era.
Winchell’s loyalty to Billingsley earned him table #50 in the club’s “Cub Room,” as well as his very own “Winchellburger” on the club’s menu. Other Stork Club specialties included their famous “chicken burger,” served with a side of sweet potato fries and buttered green beans. For dessert was, “The Snowball,” which was a ball of ice cream covered in shredded coconut and topped with hot chocolate sauce.

Though the origin of the name, The Stork Club, remained a mystery even to Billingsley, The Stork Club attracted regular guests such as Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, John and Jacqueline Kennedy and Frank Sinatra. Billingsley had a savvy air about him which kept these and more A-list names coming back again and again. –Or was it the free perfume, favorite tables and a bevy of beautiful escorts?

In the midst of my research, I decided I had to pay a visit to 3 East 53rd Street and see for myself what became of The Stork Club.

“This park is set aside in memory of Sammuel Paley, 1875-1963, for the enjoyment of the public,” reads a tiny sign at the entrance of the park. The “park” doesn’t feel like one at all, no benches, no grass, no people!

“We’ve had a few reporters come from time to time…they all want the same information, and I can’t answer half the questions they ask me,” stated a Groundsman of Paley Park.

Prior to the 1950’s, any hope that the average person had of catching a glimpse of the excitement inside The Stork Club was from what could be seen along the street. Though people were shooed away for standing and gawking for a long period of time, passerbys let their imagination run if they were lucky enough to see the solid gold chain, which was just inside the front door.

In 1950, Americans who were lucky enough to have a television set, were able to finally see what went on beyond the gold chain at The Stork Club. CBS offered Billingsley a contract to host a television show spotlighting his nightclub. The show, titled “The Stork Club,” was one of television’s earliest live broadcasts. Live television recordings of the 1940’s remain largely a mystery, mostly because of the one-time-only viewing nature of the broadcast.

“The Stork Club” television show was filmed in a studio created in the upstairs of the club’s building and was designed to look just like the “Cub Room” of The Stork Club. In an episode, (which ran for approximately thirty minutes) Billingsley gave viewers a tabloid-esque look into the lives of the famous people who happened to be dining in that night. Moving from table to table, Billingsley managed to find out the latest dirt, while smoking what seemed to be an infinite amount of cigarettes. The show ended routinely with a performance by the musical guest of the night.

Behind the glitter and glamour of The Stork Club, however, things were not quite as magical as they appeared.

In Blumenthal’s book, he addresses various accounts of racism on Billingsley’s part. He was known for not allowing Jewish or black people into his club unless they were of A-list celebrity status. His discrimination became public after an incident where he refused to serve Parisian dancer, Josephine Baker’s table.

According to several sources, "In 1951, Josephine Baker made charges of racism against Sherman Billingsley's Stork Club in New York, where she had been refused service. Actress Grace Kelly, who was at the club at the time, rushed over to Baker, took her by the arm and stormed out with her entire party, vowing to never return (and she never did)."

Due to all the controversy, things weren't looking good for The Stork. Here are photos (sorry they are small) of protesters:

For Billingsley’s employees, things began to turn ugly. According to Blumenthal, Billingsley began listening in at the club’s switchboard, eavesdropping on private phone calls. He also had tables bugged, out of paranoia that his every move was being watched.

“I WANT ALL THE EMPLOYEES, WHO ARE STUBBORN, TO KNOW THAT I OWN THE STORK CLUB AND HOW I WANT THINGS DONE, MUST BE DONE THAT WAY. I WILL NOT STAND ANYONE WHO BUCKS ME. WHEN ANYONE THINKS THEY CAN DO THINGS THEIR WAY AND NOT MINE, THEY CAN DO THEIR THINKING ELSEWHERE. EVEN IF I’M WRONG- I HAVE A RIGHT TO BE IF IT’S MY WISH. I WANT MY ORDERS CARRIED OUT.” –As written by Billingsley to his employees, posted on the door of a pantry in the club.

In 1965, Billingsley had new plans to re-locate his club, when he suddenly fell ill. He sold the building to CBS founder, William S. Paley and it was then that The Stork club, which had operated for over three decades, came to a close.

Sherman Billingsley met his fate when he collapsed at age 70 on October 4th, 1966.

“New York [has] changed, and the Stork Club has become silly and old,” stated American columnist, Jimmy Breslin during the time of the club’s closing.

Though much of what happened inside The Stork Club remains a mystery, perhaps one day, someone will unveil lost stories of the nightclub.

The stork club may be gone, but it continues to hold a special place in the history of New York City. It will take its place among other fallen New York City hotspots, such as The El Morocco, The Latin Quarter and Studio 54. Today, The Cub Room, a small bar in Manhattan, is fondly named after the “Cub Room” of The Stork Club.

I love the Stork Club, you know that, but this guy had major problems! Look at the second to last picture, the look on the guy's face who is standing! At least he's drinking Coca Cola. I don't know if I would have ever WANTED to work at the Stork, even being a hat check girl...Okay, maybe I would?

I first learned of her as Shirley Temple's mother, Kay Ellison in Shirley's first motion picture with Fox Studios, "Baby Take a Bow" (1934).

Claire got her start in B pictures playing innocent roles which she soon grew tired of and wanted more dramatic roles. A similar story for Shirley's other mother figures such as Alice Faye ,Gloria Stewart and Phyllis Brooks.

After her breakthrough role in the film, Stagecoach, (1939) it didn't take long for Hollywood to recognize Trevor's outstanding talents. In 1937 Claire was nominated for an Oscar for the film, Dead End. In 1948 she won an Oscar for Best Actress in the film, Key Largo. She was also nominated in 1954 for her role in the film, The High and Mighty.

During Claire's career which spun an impressive 50 years, she became known for playing the bad girl in gangster and film noirs. She was thus given the title, "Queen of Film Noir." She appeared in an astounding 60 films.

"I WAKE UP SCREAMING" (1941) IS A REAL TREASURE!

Last night I watched a commentary for I Wake Up Screaming starring Betty Grable, Victor Mature, and my favorite: Carole Landis, whom I just wrote about a few days ago.

Here's a quick plot:

A young promoter (Mature) is accused of the murder of Vicky Lynn (Landis), a young actress he "discovered" as a waitress while out with ex-actor Robin Ray and gossip columnist Larry Evans. He hides out with Vicky's sister Jill (Grable), whom he is falling in love with, but is eventually captured. An obsessive police officer knows the man is innocent but because the evidence is completely incriminating, he pursues him anyway. Promoter Frankie escapes and tries to find the murderer himself. [source]

Here are MY reasons for loving this film:

FIRST: This is actually arguably THE FIRST film noir.

SECOND: The Soundtrack! The overture used in the film, "Street Scene" composed and conducted by Alfred Newman is heard quite humorously throughout the film as well as "Over The Rainbow" by Harold Arlen. I had fun counting the times the tunes popped up unexpectedly!! Below is part one with the infamous tune setting the stage.

"Street Scene" was written for Samuel Goldwyn's 1931 film, titled, "Street Scene."

But the theme was used in several other films, including 1953's, "How To Marry a Millionaire" with none other than Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, and Lauren Bacall.

Anyway, thanks to this movie, I can't get STREET SCENE out of my head!!!!!!!! it just might be my new favorite...But Rhapsody In Blue is hard to beat!!!

THIRD: THE TRIVIA! There is so much symbolism in this film it just eats you up!

Did You Know?

*I Wake Up Screaming was filmed and released just before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. There is an interesting line related to the Japanese that is somewhat ironic considering the events which would soon enfold.

*All of the production and promoting of the film was done using the title, "Hot Spot." If you pay close attention, the words, "Hot Spot" are spoken in the film!

*Betty Grable and Carole Landis play sisters in the film, something they had gotten used to, after portraying sisters in the 1941 film, Moon Over Miami.

*All of Carole Landis's costumes had to be "pre-approved" that they weren't too revealing! (She was known for her amazing curves).

*Carole Landis's character, Vicki Lynn and Carole in real life unfortunately met the same demise.

LOLITA (1962) AND FORMER ACTRESS SUE LYON

Last week, on a surprisingly chilly, rainy night, I was in the mood to watch something interesting. My taste in movies can be a bit eccentric so I was in the mood for a classic film that would make me think.

"Voila!" I stumbled upon the 1962 Stanley Kubrick film, Lolita! I immediately jumped online to research the film, like I am guilty of doing most of the time just to be sure it was something worth watching. The novel, Lolita, written by Vladimir Nabokov was quite controversial and the controversy grew when a film was in the works.

If you know the story, then you'll understand when I say I'm glad Haley Mills didn't get the part.

Sue Lyon hasn't been acting since the 1970s and she has quite an interesting story.

I personally loved everything about the film...It really gets you thinking into psychology and a variety of human emotions. I highly suggest it if you haven't seen it!

The film stuck with me so much that I had to run out and buy the novel...

Even though in 1964, Sue said while appearing on the game show, What's My Line? that Lolita was her [favorite] film, in her later years she had more negative words about her "Lolita" days.

Regardless, she was clearly a talented, poised young actress who will always have her place in motion picture history.

Very weird!....But RIGHT after the Sharon Tate posts, on a separate day and randomly, I stumbled on an old photo of Carole I had saved on my computer. After hours of research I read that writer Jacqueline Susann modeled the character Jennifer North in Valley Of The Dolls after Carole. This is the character Sharon Tate portrayed in the film, The Valley Of The Dolls! So that was a tad weird! I also read that her father was Norwegian...so is mine! I know I am guilty of just reading her story now, but I'm only 25 :/ Anyhow, you can read a VERY detailed timeline of Carole's life here.

It is unfortunate that there are so many unanswered questions about her life and death. While I have stated before, I will not write about my personal opinion surrounding anyone's death, I WILL say that she deserves to be remembered for her talent and contribution to films. Not to mention she had such a unique look to her! I find it odd and erie that I was drawn to research Carole the other day. I could certainly feel the sadness in her eyes looking at her photos.

I haven't yet mentioned my Stork Club jaunt about six years ago...but I did a big research project on the old New York City club. The Stork Club's hay day was during the 1940s and 1950s. Anyone who was anyone went, including Carole Landis, pictured below.

As I have stated previously, I am in LOVE with the show Bewitched and Samantha's kitchen on the show. After falling in love with the PYREX used on Bewitched, including the juice quintet, casserole dish and mixing bowls, I decided I, too had to have them.

So a while ago I posted about retro kitchens and I included photos of vintage PYREX glassware. I recently ventured out to some antique shops with my mom and sister and came back with my first very own vintage PYREX bowls!

The bowls are the Butterfly Gold patterned mustardy-yellow from the late 1960s. Also seen in my photo below are some vintage Fire King custard cups.

What I really want to find are bowls and dishes with the starburst and snowflake designs.

I love Audrey for many reasons. I love that she was so down to earth and sometimes kept quiet and to herself. I love what a passionate person she was and how she always gave great thought to what she was about to say. Sure Audrey had people around her helping create what became her "signature look" (heavy eyebrows, etc) and sure she wore fancy dresses and fancy jewelry. But she's the perfect example of being glamorous while still maintaining class, charm and dignity. This is the main difference between Audrey and most Hollywood ladies of today.

I say, It's OK to be a girly girl!

It would be a shame if the summer were to go by without doing a post on one of my favorite summer (and all time) movies, The Seven Year Itch!

I really love the apartment in the film. Fo me, when I fantasize about an apartment in New York City, this is it. I found several photos from here which showcase the great apartment. I love how everyone had little mini "bars" in their houses and apartments then...Complete with an ice bucket and tongs. I also love their bookshelves and furniture!

I wish I had photos of the exterior and back porch... I'll be on the lookout.

One of my favorite quotes is when Marilyn asks, "Where do those stairs lead?" And Tom Ewell's character says, "Nowhere." And Marilyn says in typical Marilyn fashion, "A stairway to no where!" I LOVE HER!

Yup, 25 years old today!

I "incidentally" (hint hint) share the same birthday as my favorite guy on TV, too..........Can you guess who?.......

I have made it clear to my husband that he WILL be enduring a feature birthday flick of my choice tonight to celebrate :) .....And he knows exactly what that means: SHIRLEY or DISNEY. But which to chose? I admit he has sat through a few films, but being that it's my birthday he has no choice so I'd better pick something good! Any suggestions?

Every birthday I always think about that episode of I Love Lucy when Lucy thinks everyone forgot her birthday! It's hysterical... and I admit, I too sometimes get the birthday blues.

I've been working on a few on-going projects. First, I have been working on my own biography of Vera-Ellen for almost a year now and will hopefully be able to share some information that has taken me months and months of research.

Also, I am also working on a Shirley Temple project and plan to share photos of my entire collection that I have been working on since I was about 5 or 6 years old.

These projects (and more) are going to take a few more weeks but know that I'm working on it! I am also working on making this blog look more attractive and more "hands on." There just aren't enough hours in the day it seems! I have so many ideas and start about 30 projects at a time because I get so excited.

Know that I'm extremely passionate about what I do and if you stick around and follow my blog I promise you won't be disappointed!

What DO I do? A lot of things! I am working on the "About Di" page and will announce when that's finished so you can check it out.

I want to share some photos of Anna Karina. She is such an inspiration to me stylistically and creatively. I was told we resemble each other and I had never heard of her. After watching some of her films and reading interviews with her, I, of course became fascinated and just in awe of her! It was weird, after I was told I resemble her, I saw Anna Karina everywhere, (I mean her movies, etc) in random places like this one authentic french restaurant I went to in Seattle. Quite random.

I have several etiquette books and this one was published in 1956...So, I'm obviously obsessed with it!

Before getting into the nail biting questions (which, by the way is very bad etiquette) look at what I found INSIDE the book after I got it:

It's some poor old lady's grocery list from the 50s or 60s!!! Look! Listerine for only 69 cents!

How Can There Be Anything Bad In The World...

When you watch Shirley Temple in The Little Princess? Okay, I'm 24 and have to re-phrase that: If you're a girl, how can there be anything bad in the world watching The Little Princess?

I love everything about the movie and it's probably the one I watch most frequently out of them all, and I own almost all of them! Movies that I haven't seen but am dying to see and hope to see before Shirley and I both are gone?

Di's Watermelon Lemonade!

Watermelon Lemonade

This recipe can be altered depending on how sweet you want it! Gradually add the simple syrup to the rest of the ingredients in the pitcher and taste as you go! What did Di add to make it her own? PASSION FRUIT JUICE!!!!

Ingredients:

1 1/4 C fresh-squeezed lemon juice (I used about 6 good sized lemons)

1 C fresh watermelon puree, strained through a coarse strainer to remove seeds (I only had to use enough watermelon cubes to fill my food processor!)

Simple syrup (1 C water 1 C sugar)*

3/4 cup (6 ounces) cold water, (or as much as you want to un-sweeten the drink a bit!)

Long Splash of Passion Fruit Juice

Lots and Lots of ice!

* Make your own simple syrup: Simmer one part water with one part sugar until sugar has dissolved. Let cool.

When I came across the recipe on Smitten Kitchen's blog, I had to go out and buy a bunch of lemons and watermelon! The hubby said it was, "The best summer drink he's ever had." There ya go!!!

Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie!

I was bored this afternoon and decided to make this pie for my fiance! I was worried it would be a bit runny, but it wasn't! We both really liked it!

I even used frozen berries!

I kind of screwed up the crust a little, but who cares!!

Here's the recipe I used! It's from here

Rhubarb and Strawberry Pie

INGREDIENTS
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 pound fresh rhubarb, chopped
2 pints fresh strawberries
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
2 tablespoons butter
1 egg yolk
2 tablespoons white sugar

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
In a large bowl, mix flour and sugar. Add strawberries and chopped rhubarb. Toss with sugar and flour and let stand for 30 minutes.
Pour filling into pie crust. Dot top with butter, and cover with top crust. Seal edges of top and bottom crust with water.
Apply yolk to top of pie, using a pastry brush. Sprinkle with sugar. Cut small holes in top to let steam escape.
Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C), for 35 to 40 minutes, or until bubbly and brown. Cool on rack.

Just a few Thoughts About The MANDY Number...

1. When you hear "MANDY!" and see Vera-Ellen you get chills.

2. Vera-Ellen's sparkly red gloves are way cooler than Rosemary's.

3. Vera-Ellen's hair is WAY more festive and the red bows are precious!!!!

4. Vera-Ellen shows more sass and piazazz in this number than Rosemary does in the whole film.

5. In the "Mandy" number, when the cameras cut to Rosemary and others shaking their tambourines, your mouth is left wide open because of the amazingness of Vera-Ellen's dancing, yet another example that she was clearly THE star of this movie.

6. Who else would have been able to dance down a staircase like that in high heels and be thrown down a staircase and into a backflip with ease?????

7. Who's not confident??? It takes a lot to feel comfortable wearing a skin tight outfit like that! ....And Vera-Ellen was probably the only one in Hollywood who could pull it off.

8. This number proves she was THE BEST, most well trained, athletic, talented, dancer to ever appear on screen.

So, yeah..... I'm just sayin!!! :)

On The Town!

About four months ago in July, I found myself at a party at a college dorm where a bunch of summer stock theater actors were staying during their visit in New York. Leave it to me.. I always somehow end up with actors! Anyway, we got to the party late about 1 AM and the place was hoppin!' The actors were of all ages and wearing all sorts of goofy, quirky outfits. I was wearing something a bit goofy myself, of course I'm always worried about my attire, but a lovely australian actress told me I looked pretty good, so I decided to say, "Screw it!" and wondered about to mingle.

Amongst the partiers was this older gentleman actor who I, of course hit it off with right off the bat. I had a lot to talk to him about...mostly, alright, ONLY old hollywood. The minute I mentioned Vera-Ellen he knew exactly who she was and when I threw out, "On The Town" he started singing the lyrics to the title song, "The Bronx is up, but the battery's down." My jaw just dropped. Another surreal moment: Me, in a college dorm with actors, not college students, in the wee hours of the morning talking about Vera-Ellen and On The Town.

Love it!
